Developing an Innovator’s Mindset

Speaker:
Rose A Maciewicz
PhD, Retired Chief Scientist AstraZeneca Honorary Professor Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation University of Glasgow

Abstract:
The impact that personal behaviours have on achieving innovation or becoming an entrepreneur is often either overlooked or addressed superficially. Yet success can depend as much on behaviours and leadership skills as on knowledge, practical skills and ideas. This talk will describe my definition of an innovator’s mindset and why this is important. It will cover topics including how you respond to challenges; how you interact with others; how you react to set-backs. This will be done using reflection from my successes and failures from more than 25 years of working in the pharmaceutical industry and 10 years in academic and government science institutions. My experience covers basic science, drug discovery and development, strategy and business development and the interface between industry and academia with small to large consortiums. I hope that my passion and enthusiasm for the importance of the innovator’s mindset will inspire you to develop and refine these traits in yourself to enhance your success.
